In early 2022, then Prime Minister Boris Johnson set out how he would improve the way the Government and the Party work together at the meeting of the Parliamentary Conservative Party.
Part of this process was the reestablishment of backbench policy committees, organised committees that play an important role in generating ideas and discussion and so I encourage colleagues from across the party to get involved. The committees allow Ministers to engage with their backbench colleagues in Parliament and listen to their views - a direct line from the back benches to 10 Downing Street.
On the 3rd March 2022, Anthony was elected as Chairman of the Backbench Treasury Select Committee, bringing his experience of economic policy to bear to bring forward Conservative policies. The Committee is charged with developing policies up to the next election, and is currently gathering evidence from politicians, think tanks, and business groups, on which reforms could promite growth, investment and economic prosperity for the UK.
